New York’s leading art fair for modern and contemporary art, the Armory Show, will open its fifteen edition, Thursday, March 7 and will run through Sunday, March 10, 2013. The Armory show will be officially opened by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

A hallmark of the international annual arts calendar, The Armory Show, will present over 200 galleries from 30 countries at its fifteenth edition, bringing a range of new and historically significant works of art to New York City. This March the fair is proud to be celebrating the centennial of our namesake, The Armory Show of 1913, widely credited with the introduction of modernism to the United States. In an effort to bring this rich history to light, the 2013 fair will honor this landmark exhibition through a variety of programming and cultural initiatives.

The Armory Show this year will present a dynamic selection of programming taking place on-site throughout the duration of the fair. This year’s OPEN FORUM lecture series has been curated by Anne Barlow, Executive Director of Art in General, and is comprised of talks inspired by, and expanding upon Armory Focus: USA, which highlights artistic practices across America, and the history and legacy of the ground-breaking original Armory Show of 1913. The fair will also host the second edition of Armory Film, curated by Moving Image, which will feature a selection of works by leading contemporary film and video artists represented by Armory Show exhibitors. These events will take place on Pier 94 in the Media Lounge.

Anne Barlow states, “I am excited to organize the Open Forum on the 100th Anniversary of the Armory Show as this offers the chance to look back at a seminal moment in the history of modern art in America, while discussing ideas around ‘contemporaneity’ and emerging art practices today. It has been rewarding to work with brilliant speakers on a range of talks from art historical discussions to debates around the commissioning of experimental new work within the context of an art fair.”

In addition, INVISIBLE-EXPORTS along with artist Cary Leibowitz and the Hudson River Trust will be presenting, “I NEED TO START SEEING A THERAPIST”, a site-specific installation on the Hudson River Park at Pier 94. The sculpture, which is 275 feet long and 12.5 feet high, is comprised of wood and steel letters, visible from the West Side Highway. In typical Leibowitz fashion, the statement itself “I Need To Start Seeing A Therapist” and the enormity of the structure, highlight the humor in the self-effacing public declaration.
