The Busan Biennale Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as Organizing Committee) has held the second extraordinary general meeting of 2015 at Busan City Hall on May 21 and finally approved sculptor Lim Dong Lak (currently a professor at Dong-A University) as the ninth executive director of the Operating Committee to lead the Busan Biennale.

As Lim Dong Lak was finally approved for the seat of executive director of the Busan Biennale’s Operating Committee that has been vacant so far, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Operating Committee Lim Dong Lak will be officially performing duties starting May 21. 

As the Executive Director of the Operating Committee Lim Dong Lak will oversee the implementation of events including the management of the Busan Biennale Operating Committee for about one year and nine months from May 21, 2015 to February 28, 2017.

Professor Lim Dong Lak of Dong-A University, nominated as the ninth executive director of the Operating Committee, was born in Daejeon in 1954. He is an artist active throughout the world in places such as France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Asia. He made a great contribution to the internationalization of Busan’s contemporary art, successfully hosting events by overcoming the insufficient budget and environment during the time he served as Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for the Pusan International Contemporary Art Festival, the Busan International Sea Art Festival and the Busan International Outdoor Sculpture Symposium, former iterations of the Busan Biennale, in addition to his experience in various cultural art circles such as being a Ministry of Culture & Athletics advisory commissioner, a Gwangju Biennale Organizing Organizer and an consultant to the Busan International Film Festival.

The Organizing Committee is planning to start preparation of exhibitions for the Sea Art Festival 2015 and the Busan Biennale 2016 now that the vacant position of executive director of the Operating Committee has been confirmed.

Biography
Lim Dong Lak is a Korean sculptor and professor of Fine Arts. He was born in Daejeon, Korea in 1954. He attained the degrees of Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts, Sculpture from Hong-Ik University, and he currently serves as a professor of College of Fine-Arts (Department of Sculpture) of Dong-A University. He has taken part in about 250 international and invitational exhibitions and 300 group shows as a sculptor. 

He has built a remarkable reputation internationally throughout his career as an artist so far. In recent years, he has participated in Art Paris 2015 and Brafa Art Fair 2015 and been invited to numerous solo exhibitions such as Lelia Mordoch (Miami, USA, 2014) and Geometry of Light (Leonberg, Germany, 2013). He was also invited to the international exhibitions like International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations (2012) in Venice and Invited outdoor Sculpture Exhibition (2007) in Baden-Baden. And he was the first Korean artist to exhibit in La Defense Square in 2006 with the title Invited Sculpture Exhibition of Lim Dong Lak.
