Bienal de Performance de Buenos Aires – BP.15

The Centro de Arte Experimental at the Universidad Nacional de San Martín opens its season 2015 with four performances that integrate the program of the Bienal de Performance in Buenos Aires.

Marina Abramovic lecture
April 27, 6pm

Marina Abramovic, international pioneer of the performance as a visual language, will present a lecture open to the public in dialogue with Andrea Giunta, Director of the Centro de Arte Experimental.

 

Marina Abramovic Workshop—The Abramovic Method
April 28–29, 10am–6pm

 

Marina Abramović developed The Abramović Method to give the public the opportunity to be free from the constant distractions of our modern world and to be quiet and connected with the present moment.

 

The exercises presented during this workshop within the first biennial of Performance Art of Buenos Aires are part of the Abramović Method. Participants of this workshop will stay in the space for as long as they want, allowing them ample time to be with themselves and to experience the calmness and the rare feeling of being free from responsibility.

Theatrical Installation

 

Under de SI brings together different performing stations, which the public can observe from a distance or explore by walking around dozens of performers. It is a Baroque performance, with objects, sculptural situations, repetitive movements and substances that create an intense universe. The Argentinian sculptor Diego Bianchi and the Colombian choreographer and dancer Luis Garay explore minimal fictions, without narration or development, bringing both visual arts and the physical body to their limits.

Performance

 

Through a non-traditional narrative, the joint work of Gabo Ferro and Emilio García Wehbi shows possible landscapes composed with materials and certain objects drawn from the life of the French poet under the influence of a session of electroshock: a contemporary altarpiece composed of orphan words as stray children; disciplined bodies by the mechanics of order seeking their release through cannibalism; school notes submitted to psycho-diagnostics; musics that find their lost sound through Henry Purcell; animals slaughtered in the name of the Father, among others.

 

Tania Bruguera
June 7

 

The artist Tania Bruguera, who stands by the slogan of “useful art,” which seeks to transform aspects of society through art practice, has been invited to the Performance Biennial in Buenos Aires. After her performance in Cuba was banned, her passport was retained, which prevents her, for the moment, to travel outside of La Havana, Cuba. The Centro de Arte Experimental of UNSAM and the Bienal de Performance in Buenos Aires hopes that this situation will soon be resolved and that we will be able to have her presence in Buenos Aires.


About the Centro de Arte Experimental at the Universidad Nacional de San Martin

With a surface of 7,500 square meters, in a building located in the heart of Buenos Aires City that functioned until 1990 as an electrical substation constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, The Centro de Arte Experimental at the UNSAM opened in 2013, under the Artistic Direction of Andrea Giunta. This is a unique project in the city of Buenos Aires, dedicated to the crossroads of artistic and academic disciplines. Focused on performance art, site-specific works, installations, experimental music, video and archives, the Centro de Arte Experimental replicates the original building’s function: it acts as a Dynamo for culture.
