GENERATION
25 Years of Contemporary Art in Scotland

May–October 2014

www.generationartscotland.org

GENERATION is a landmark series of exhibitions that explores the remarkable development of contemporary art in Scotland over the last 25 years. From May to October, GENERATION will see exhibitions taking place the length and breadth of the country, from the islands to the Highlands, from Orkney to the Borders and from Stornoway to Dumfries. Featuring works by over 100 artists in over 60 galleries, exhibition spaces and venues, GENERATION is one of the most ambitious celebrations of contemporary art ever held by a single nation.

In the making since 2011, GENERATION places the spotlight on a generation of artists living and working in Scotland, whose work has created enormous excitement and attracted international acclaim over the last quarter- century. GENERATION will offer an unprecedented view of the richness, diversity and range of contemporary art in Scotland.

The programme of exhibitions will include some of the most historically significant works created in Scotland in the last 25 years, as well as recreations of significant shows and major installations. It will bring together loans from public and private collections in the UK and abroad, many of which are being shown for the very first time in Scotland and aims to reach and build new audiences for contemporary art.
