Daelim Museum presents an exhibition by the maestro in the world of book publication, Gerhard Steidl.

Establishing the highest value that can be created from books and paper, Steidl is praised for accomplishing publishing and printing into an art form, covering not only various art genres including fashion, photography, literature and fine art, but also commercial brands, and collaborating with many established artists in producing a variety of books.

The exhibition focuses on his 40 years of effort and passion devoted to his holistic art book making, filled with artisan and experimental spirit. Through various multisensory experiences, audiences can encounter the intimate collaboration process between Steidl and world-established artists such as Robert Frank, Dayanita Singh, Jim Dine and Ed Ruscha, the Nobel Literature Prize laureate Günter Grass, Karl Lagerfeld, and the outstanding photographer Koto Bolofo, who newly photographed Hermes and Rolls-Royce. Furthermore, the exhibition suggests the special journey that audiences cannot go through anywhere else, in which art works are transformed into a book through publishing, and paper as medium is reborn into a book as artistic creation.

With this exhibition How To Make A Book With Steidl, Daelim Museum supports Steidl’s strong will that he wants to stay an influential publisher aspiring analogue processes in markets occupied by all sorts of digital media. We believe his passion will be a driving force to continuously produce books in exceptional quality, and in doing so in such a differentiate and competitive manner that suggests a bright future in the book market. The exhibition will resurface the value of a well-made book as an artwork and provide audiences a special chance to feel the real value of a ‘paper book’ in their hands, stimulating analogue sensitivity that is withering in the rapidly changing age of the digital.
