L’Image papillon
23 March–8 September 2013

Artists: Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc, Dove Allouche, Lonnie van Brummelen & Siebren de Haan, Moyra Davey, Tacita Dean, Jason Dodge, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Ian Kiaer, Jochen Lempert, Zoe Leonard, Helen Mirra, Dominique Petitgand, John Stezaker, Danh Vo, Tris Vonna-Michell

Drawing inspiration from the work of the German author W. G. Sebald, the exhibition L’Image papillon deals with the complex relationships that link images and memory. It includes sixteen artists whose works, like Sebald’s books, confront the field of memory and history in the mode of experience, reminiscence and the interweaving of temporalities.

Thea Djordjadze: our full
6 July 2013–19 January 2014

Created using humble materials from traditional sculpture or found in the everyday environment, Thea Djordjadze’s sculptures and installations are characterised by their fragile, temporary and transitory nature. Seemingly produced on the spur of the moment, they are a crystallisation of both the process of their production and their possible alteration through time.

In collaboration with: Malmö Konsthall, Kunstverein Lingen Kunsthalle

Lutz & Guggisberg: The Forest
6 July 2013–19 January 2014

Since 1996, Andres Lutz and Anders Guggisberg have worked together and developed a very diverse body of work, which uses all possible media with great freedom. They realise sculptures, paintings, installations, videos, concerts and performances. Their varied production is characterised by its sparkling, inventive ideas which reflect their unique but completely coherent view of the world.

Folkert de Jong: Actus Tragicus
23 March–8 September 2013

At first sight, Dutch artist Folkert de Jong’s sculptures have an effect that is both fascinating and disturbing. In response to Mudam’s invitation, the artist is presenting a group of new pieces specially produced for the museum’s Grand Hall. Inspired by the work The Fight Between Carnival and Lent by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, painted in 1559, the artist created ten larger-than-life figures dangling from the heights of the glass dome like marionettes (or hanged people).

Yuri Suzuki: Looks Like Music
3–26 August 2013

Looks Like Music is an installation by Yuri Suzuki centered around his sound piece Colour Chaser: a miniature robot that detects and follows a black line while reading crossing coloured lines and translating this data into sound. Visitors are free to draw on paper and simultaneously compose music, thus creating a large-scale picture and a sound piece at the same time.

Lee Bul
5 October 2013–9 June 2014

Lee Bul is one of South Korea’s most active artists on the international contemporary art scene. She began her career in the eighties with a series of street performances in which she wore prosthetic dresses—morphological extensions with which she transformed her appearance. More recently, Bul’s work has gravitated towards architecture. After subjecting the human body to distortions and manipulations, the artist is now transfiguring our built environment and undermining our perception of space. Her exhibition at Mudam will occupy the entire lower ground floor and include a site-specific work for the museum’s Grand Hall.
