EVENTS AT THE FAIR

The 33rd edition of Arte Fiera Art First offers a newly-designed program of events at the Art Café and at the new Art Talks space.

Conferences on Art Collecting
Confirming Arte Fiera’s attention to market developments, the Art Talks space (mezzanine 15-20) will host four conferences on art collecting featuring Italian and foreign guest speakers:
Friday 23rd January, Wunderkammer for two – private collecting (11.30am – 1.30 pm) and The public commission’s role in contemporary art (3 – 5 pm) in cooperation with PARC – Authority for the quality and protection of the landscape and for contemporary architecture and art
Saturday 24 January, 11.30 am – 1.30 pm) Contemporary art in the choices and strategies of banks and bank foundations jointly organized with Gruppo 24Ore
Sunday 25 January (11.30 am – 1.30 pm) at MAMbo. Museum of Modern Art Bologna, Art eyes the world: a look at the role of private art foundations.

First Choice a series of six guided tours by esteemed Italian collectors (Friday to Sunday, twice a day 12am and 4 m).

Important Awards

Euromobil Under 30 Award – 3rd edition (Hall 15 – A3, Saturday 24th, 12 am), for Italian and foreign artists under 30 years “who uses various aspects of visual art to express understanding of modernity”. The works have been selected by a jury composed of the owners of Euromobil Group main sponsor of Arte Fiera Gaspare, Antonio, Fiorenzo and Giancarlo Lucchetta, the Director of Arte Fiera Silvia Evangelisti, the scientific director of IED Aldo Colonetti, the architect Roberto Gobbo, and critics Beatrice Buscaroli and Walter Guadagnini, and will be exhibited at Arte Fiera while the winner will be announced.

2009 Furla Prize – 7th edition (Art Talks space, Mezzanine Hall 15-20, Saturday 24th, 3 – 6 pm), presented at Arte Fiera for the first time, with a new format aimed at supporting creativity through the strengthening of training and planning factors, support contemporary Italian artists and gives an opportunity for the growth and visibility of young Italian curators. On the occasion of Arte Fiera a round table discussing the curator’s role and the concept of design, will involve among others: Marina Abramovic, Zdenka Badovinac, Chiara Bertola and Hans Ulrich Obrist. The finalists works by Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Meris Angioletti, Giulia Piscitelli, Alberto Tadiello, and Ian Tweedy will be exhibited in Hall 20.

Fabbri Biennial Prize for Art – 3rd edition (Art Cafè, Saturday 24th of January 2009, 11.30 am), created by Fabbri a leading international gourmet food and confectionery manufacturer, involved nationally and internationally famous artists.

Every day, at the Art Café space presentations of art books and catalogues with contributions by artists and curators, architects and gallery owners; among the others: the Atelier Jan De Cock’s catalogue; Le Ceneri di Pirandello illustrated by Mimmo Paladino; Arte e memoria by Julia Draganovic; Abo e l’architettura with architects Massimiliano Fuksas and Mario Botta.

BOLOGNA ART FIRST

The 4th edition of Bologna Art First, a joint project of the City of Bologna and Arte Fiera, will be held from 23 January to 22 February 2009, offering an itinerary of museums, courtyards, and buildings in Bologna’s historical centre featuring site specific installations by contemporary artists represented by galleries exhibiting at the Fair: Igor Mitoraj (Contini Gallery, Venice) in the courtyard of Palazzo d’Accursio; Bernar Venet (MAM Mario Mauroner Contemporary Art, Wien) at the Music Museum; Jonathan Seliger (Studio La Città, Verona) in the chapel frescoed by David Tremlett in Palazzo Re Enzo; Franco Guerzoni (Marco Rossi Spirale Arte, Milan) in the arcade of the private Palazzo Sanuti Bevilacqua degli Ariosti; Enrico T. De Paris (Byblosartgallery, Verona) in Galleria Cavour; J&Peg (Poggiali&Forconi, Florence) and Marcello Maloberti, (Raffaella Cortese, Milan) in the Archaeological Museum; Kan Xuan (Galleria Continua, San Gimignano/Bejing/Le Moulin) in the Museo della Sanità; Giuseppe Armenia (Fabio Bianchi Contemporary Art, Lecco) in Piazza Calderini; Carlo Bernardini (Grossetti ArteContemporanea, Milan) in Piazza Santo Stefano; Aljoscha (Beck&Eggelin, Düsseldorf) and Christian Leperino (NOTGallery, Naples) at the University Museum of Palazzo Poggi; Richard Nonas (Esso Gallery, New York) in the courtyard of the Academy of Fine Arts and National Picture Gallery; Davide Rivalta (Fabio Tiboni Arte Contemporanea, Bologna) in the courtyard of the Medieval Museum; Giovanni Rizzoli (galleria Michela Rizzo, Venice) in the Marconi Business Lounge of the Gugliemo Marconi International Airport.

ARTE FIERA OFF

The 3rd edition of Arte Fiera OFF, offers a wide range of cultural events which will take place in Bologna and in Emilia Romagna. Among them at MAMbo – Museum of Modern Art of Bologna, after its success at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York last year, the large anthological exhibit of works by Giorgio Morandi (1890 – 1964); at the Morandi Museum, the show Bernd & Hilla Becher at Museo Morandi; at Palazzo Re Enzo, the 9th edition of the International live-media festival Netmage 09 by Xing; Christian Boltanski’s permanent installation at the Ustica Memorial Museum.

On Saturday 24 January, ART WHITE NIGHT changes the colour of Bologna’s historical centre on becoming a contemporary art festival, with special evening hours for museums, galleries, exhibits, and shops, plus a grand finale at midnight in Piazza Maggiore.
