While preparing for the construction of their new location in the harbour of Dunkirk, the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais has made a commitment to create a direct relationship with their public. To do this they are exploring new and innovative methods to establish a dialogue with visitors.

With these objectives in mind, the FRAC set up an international team of experts, to exchange their experiences on a regular basis. The international platform, composing of S.M.A.K. (Gent/Belgium), Turner Contemporary (Margate/United Kingdom) and Firstsite Gallery (Colchester/United Kingdom), has reflected on the question of how to engage with audiences in order to establish this new kind of relationship.

Within this context a series of workshops, over two days, will be organized in Dunkirk, this April. The workshops are open to professionals of the contemporary art-circuit (curators, artists, people working in international museums), as well as teachers and students of art schools and universities.

The main theme of these sessions will be the role played by the artist as the real protagonist and driving force for the activities of a cultural institution.

Participants:
Josep Maria Martin, artist (Spain);  Superflex (Denmark); Karen Elsea, head of learning, Turner Contemporary, Margate (United Kingdom); Judith Merrit, head of learning, Firstsite Gallery, Colchester (United Kingdom);  Mehdi A., artist (France); artists from TRACK in Gent; among others.

The workshops will take place in L’Escale (Dunkirk/France)
April 12–13
