The 2012 edition of Art Los Angeles Contemporary returns to the Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Air Center from January 19–22. ALAC has quickly established itself as the premiere contemporary art fair of the West Coast and in January will again present 70 established blue-chip and top emerging galleries from the US and abroad. The fair continues its tradition of highlighting the L.A. art scene with the participation of a significant number of leading Los Angeles galleries as well as an accompanying series of performances, panels, and screenings featuring iconic L.A. artists and rising local figures.

January 2012 marks an exciting chapter of the celebration of Pacific Standard Time, Art in L.A.: 1945–1980, an initiative of the Getty with arts institutions across Southern California celebrating the birth of the LA art scene. On January 19, the 11-day Pacific Standard Time Performance and Public Art Festival kicks off at the opening night of Art Los Angeles Contemporary with Disappearing Environments, a public art installation performed by Judy Chicago, Lloyd Hamrol, and Eric Orr in 1968, will be reactivated and reinterpreted by Materials & Applications in collaboration with internationally renowned artist Judy Chicago and participants from the local community. Twenty-five tons of dry ice formations will shroud the environment in fog until the pieces ultimately vanish.

An accompanying performance illuminating the installation will take place at dusk on January 19. The installation continues to evolve as it evaporates over the four day fair.
