Abstract-Mad-Stir-Delirium-Copper-Bottomed-Work-Stick-Shop is a project by Ei Arakawa, Yuki Kimura, and JXXXA HFBK HH (Jutta Koether in collaboration with students of the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg). A performance scheduled for Friday, June 24 at 8pm, will be the source and motive for a collaborative exhibition at the daadgalerie.

The project is part of the artists’ ongoing inquiry into the potential of artistic collaboration and the momentary disintegration of authorship in improvisational performances and actions in different constellations of engagement. A number of partly painted metal poles are the formal elements that will motivate a series of individual and collective actions which translate knowledge and subjective identification into corporality and movement. Within the same time unit and using the same makeshift objects, different artistic propositions and seemingly contradictory concepts are introduced in order to “shape and re-shape one’s thinking with an unusual treatment/handling of pictures/objects” (Koether). In the process, the scripted and non-scripted acts—shifting between constructing and destroying an activated communal space of performance—produce the material for the project’s subsequent transformation into an exhibition. Abstract-Mad-Stir-Delirium-Copper-Bottomed-Work-Stick-Shop is a continuation of a collaborative installation by Yuki Kimura, Jutta Koether, and Ei Arakawa titled “Boycott Women” (2011), conceived earlier this year for a group exhibition at the Contemporary Art Center in Mito, Japan.
