In Milan
MiArt 2011
A hundred galleries. Art from the early 20th century until today.

www.miart.it

A hundred galleries, the top international artists, one hall, four days of fair. After two years of excellent results, both in terms of business and of participants, MiArt 2011 sets its sights on excellence in the art system.

Scheduled from 8th to 11th April 2011 (inauguration, invitation only, on Thursday 7th April) MiArt 2011 will be concentrated in one single hall (Hall 3, fieramilanocity, viale Scarampo, Porta Teodorico). The galleries invited to take part will be placed close to similar collections and according to their period—historic, contemporary and young artists—to achieve a comprehensive vision of the international artistic scene.

For Giò Marconi, Advisory Board member, “Milan is Italy’s reference for the art market. MiArt, therefore, is an extremely important meeting place for all concerned – gallery owners, collectors, artists and enthusiasts. The decision to go with a fair of excellence, reserved for the best galleries in Italy, makes this a not-to-be-missed showcase in the international trade fair calendar”.

In any case, the international community of collectors wants every event to have something special that makes it worth visiting, unique and therefore irreplaceable.

So it is MiArt 2011′s ambition to become “unique”, first and foremost as a fair of excellence for Italian galleries: this choice is anything but provincial, because the galleries invited to take part all have a history and market position that is international. They visit the most important trade fairs abroad. As well as top quality Italian art they have the most famous international artists and they regularly work with both Italian and overseas artists and curators to mount exhibitions.

The excellence of MiArt 2011 is also a response to a market still in difficulty: proposing galleries and works of absolute prestige, for the most refined and exacting of collectors.

MiArt 2011 also aims to be an event of high cultural value, offering a series of promptings and thoughts on the shape of art to come, on future lines of research, with as starting point the excellence of the present market.

In this direction are the various curatorial figures in charge of the different sections and the many formats thence derived, from the catalogue to the event, lots of talk shows, conferences and debates with Italian and international personalities on the state and the destiny of art.

The catalogue is an authentic art book: edited by Giorgio Verzotti, it contains the second essay attempting to reconstruct the history of Italian art as seen through the galleries.

Accompanying the text, an unpublished selection of photographs taken by Mimmo Jodice especially for MiArt. After Gabriele Basilico’s eye and the ‘colour’ vision of Armin Linke, we have the ‘romantic’ reading of Jodice to again study more deeply a Milan that is discovered in its details and in its atmospheres.

The programme of meeting/conferences during the event is managed by Peep-Hole (Vincenzo de Bellis and Bruna Roccasalva): a series of sorties into the relations between art and fashion, art and design, art and architecture and into the worlds of collecting, museums and no-profit.

Giacinto Di Pietrantonio and Donatella Volonté are once again curators of the fair’s contemporary and modern sections, respectively, they are responsible for the overall look of the event and coordination of the entire project, share with the Advisory Board (Epicarmo Invernizzi, Giò Marconi, Francesca Minini, Mauro Nicoletti, Lorcan O’Neill, Mario Pieroni, Giulio Tega), the Honour Committee (Flavio Albanese, Corrado Beldì, Daniel Bosser, Pierluigi Cerri, Lieven Declerk, Ernesto Esposito, Giorgio Fasol, Alessandro Mendini, Giovanni Puglisi, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo).

A special programme for guests invited from overseas is designed to let them experience the fair from the inside, during their stay in Milan: for them – guided tours, special meetings, a dedicated VIP lounge.
