Remembering İstanbul is a two-day conference focusing on the history of the İstanbul Biennial and manifesting the first public part of 12th İstanbul Biennial.

Over the last two decades the İstanbul Biennial has become one of the most prominent international biennials due to the consistently unique character of its exhibitions. The curators who have organised the exhibitions in the past attest the broad range of visions that this biennial has attempted to encompass, from South to North, from East to West, from emerging and established curators to curatorial collectives. Remembering İstanbul has invited all curators from past biennials to participate in the conference and to each give a presentation, remembering their experiences and providing their afterthoughts on their respective biennial exhibitions as well as the current state of the biennial exhibition format itself. Artists from Turkey who participated in the biennial and have witnessed its development will respond to the presentations. A book with all contributions will be published in September 2011, at the opening of the 12th İstanbul Biennial.
