MACRO, Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome has reopened its spaces on last May 16 with a special event that attracted more than 4500 people in one night.

A large exhibition of the museum’s collection is on display in the museum’s rooms: historical and contemporary artists like Pino Pascali and Marc Quinn, Carla Accardi and Alessandra Tesi, Franco Angeli and Jun-Nguyen Hatsushiba appear together in the museum space.

New acquisitions and extended loans by private collectors and galleries have joined the museum’s collection, enriching it with new prestigious art works by Italian and international artists: Lucio Fontana, Rirkrit Tiravanija, François Morellet and Bill Viola are just some of the artists represented in the exhibition.

In one of the museum’s rooms the work “Where the Bees Suck, There Suck I” by Hema Upadhyay will be on display until September 21: a joyful and dramatic installation, representing the idea of construction and development which also characterises the museum itself.

Luca Massimo Barbero, MACRO new director, invites you to join a summer of contemporary art in Rome. The season will be animated by continuous and dynamic changes in the exhibition display: new works will arrive and integrate MACRO collection, especially by ’70s photographers and artists like Gina Pane, Urs Lüthi and Daniel Buren.

In the month of July evening openings will be organized: drinks and screenings dedicated to most important video artists (Bruce Nauman, Nam June Paik among others) will transform the museum in a living centre of young contemporary night-life.

On September 19 at MACRO FUTURE, the second space of the museum located in Rome’s former slaughterhouse, “New York Minute” exhibition will open with more than sixty artists form the New York scene. Curated by Kathy Grayson with the support of DepART Foundation, it will be a brand new event in Rome’s context, opening the city to most vital experiences and expressions of international contemporary art.
