FRANKFURTER KUNSTVEREIN EXTENDS THE CURRENT EXHIBITION
PROGRAM UNTIL 14TH JUNE 2009:

DORIS LASCH / URSULA PONN:
“IF YOU DON’T CREATE YOUR OWN HISTORY SOMEONE ELSE WILL”

The two artists Doris Lasch (*1972, Landsberg/Lech) and Ursula Ponn (*1965, Bad Aibling) present a new installation at Frankfurter Kunstverein, which concerns the way in which history is constructed and perceived in the context of art and culture. How the past is presented is a question of its perception and is simultaneously always crucial for the manifestation of history as well as its development in terms of political or cultural decision-making. With this background in mind and with a special interest in the complicated network between perception, representation and truth, the works of Doris Lasch and Ursula Ponn progress utilising diverse media such as photography, film and installation.

ACCOMPANYING EVENT: 20th May 2009, 7 pm: Record Release ”Le musée imaginaire (1)”, with Christine Lemke, Willem Orebeek and DJ Anna (aka Ran Huber).

SASKIA HOLMKVIST: “ROLE CONTROL – IN CHARACTER”

In her recent video works “Role Control” and “In Character” (2008) Saskia Holmkvist has developed a cinematic narrative around concepts such as credibility, social competence and role behaviour in conflict situations. Different kinds of dialogues form the basis of both works, which involve interpersonal communication as well as political discussion. Both videos are co-produced by Index the Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation, Stockholm and Arnolfini, Bristol.

CURATED BY: Katja Schroeder
SPONSOR: The exhibition is kindly supported by IASPIS.

SIMON DYBBROE MØLLER: “APPENDIX”

Frankfurter Kunstverein presents, together with Kunstverein Hannover, the first comprehensive solo exhibition of the Danish artist Simon Dybbroe Møller (*1976, Århus) in Germany. Simon Dybbroe Møller subjects twentieth-century avant-garde to a subjective revision in his work. His installations, photographs and films allude to a seemingly astonishing precision in the accidental; convey by transformation, manipulation or mirroring, a mystical aura to the putatively logical. For the exhibition at Frankfurter Kunstverein Simon Dybbroe Møller developed two new works “Speed of Light. Speed of Sound” and “This Machine”. The exhibition “Appendix” is the continuation of Møller’s parallel solo exhibition “Kompendium” at Kunstverein Hannover (until 17th May 2009).

CURATED BY: Katja Schroeder (“Appendix”), René Zechlin (“Kompendium”)
SPONSORS: The Danish Arts Council, Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen and Naspa Stiftung “Initiative und Leistung”
CATALOGUE: A catalogue including texts by Ferdinand Ahm Krag, Matthew Brannon, Brian O’Connel, Sam Frank, Christian Höller, Peter Laugesen, Thomas Meinecke, Katja Schroeder, Lumi Tan and René Zechlin has been published by Sternberg Press.

COVA MACÍAS: “HORSES IN MY DREAMS”

In her video works the Spanish artist Cova Macías examines the way in which the identities of youngsters develop. Within the framework of the “Deutsche Börse Residency Program” of the Frankfurter Kunstverein, Macías has developed a documentary project showing interviews of youngsters who report on their everyday social life in Frankfurt by means of their own individual languages and gestures.

SPONSOR: The project is kindly supported by the Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft Frankfurt am Main. The “Deutsche Börse Residency Program” is kindly supported by the Deutsche Börse Group.
