Throughout the summer the DaimlerChrysler Contemporary will stage two extraordinary exhibitions at the same time, focusing on art and architecture in Japan and South Africa. The presentation arises from the two DaimlerChrysler Awards which has been presented in Japan since 1991 and in South Africa since 2000.
Art Scope Interface Complex is dedicated to the current laureates of the homonymous Residency program for young contemporary artists from Germany and Japan, which has been established by DaimlerChrysler Japan in 1991. In 2005 and 2006, the award winners were Kohei Nawa and Hiroharu Mori as well as Katja Strunz and Georg Winter. The works they created in their respective host countries will now be displayed in Berlin.

Participating artists: Hiroharu Mori (J), Kohei Nawa (J), Katja Strunz (D) Georg Winter (D).

The DaimlerChrysler Award for South African Architecture focuses on contemporary architecture. This award is part of the DaimlerChrysler Awards for South African Culture, which will be presented for the seventh time since 2000: To date, artists received distinctions in the categories of Painting (1999), Jazz (2001), Sculpture (2002), Dance (2003), Photography (2004) and Poetry (2005). In 2006 a South African jury nominated eight architects who are now introduced to an international audience by means of this exhibition and an accompanying publication in German and English. By models, photographs, videos and drawings, our exhibition presents the architects and their most important projects. A special part will be dedicated to the Award winner, Heinrich Wolff.

Participating Architects: archilab (pty) ltd (Michael Borgström, Marco Bezzoli, Ishmaiel Meyer), Thorsten Deckler, Heather Dodd, Andrew Horn, Ndabo Langa, Henning Rasmuss, Chris Wilkinson, Heinrich Wolff (all SA).

The exhibition will be accompanied by a comprehensive guided program, including artist talks, lectures by professional architects as well as guided tours: Regular guided tours are available on every first Saturday of a month at 4 p.m. (July 7 / August 4 / September 1, 2007). Guided tours Art and Architecture on Potsdamer Platz art can be booked on request.
