An Auction of Contemporary Art Will Benefit Planned Parenthood on February 16, 2006

An Auction of Contemporary Art Will Benefit Planned Parenthood
February 16, 2006, at Sotheby’s, New York

Choice Art 2006, a benefit auction that will offer work by some of todays most important contemporary artists, will be held on February 16 at 6:00 p.m. at Sothebys at 1334 York Avenue at 72nd Street. The auction will benefit Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, Planned Parenthood of Nassau County and Planned Parenthood of New York City. April Gornik has been commissioned to create a special edition print. ABC-TV journalist Diane Sawyer will be the evenings featured guest speaker. In addition, Planned Parenthood Federation of Americas newly appointed president, Cecile Richards, will join the festivities. An online catalogue of the works is available at www.choiceart2006.org.

On auction will be works by more than 50 artists including Louise Bourgeois, Chuck Close, Rineke Dijkstra, Marcel Dzama, Katy Grannan, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Longo, Sarah Lucas, Christian Marclay, Julie Mehretu, Marilyn Minter, Roxy Paine, Danica Phelps, Richard Prince, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Susan Rothenberg, Ed Ruscha, David Salle, James Siena, Laurie Simmons, Richard Tuttle and Terry Winters.

The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with cocktails and a silent auction followed by a live auction at 8:00 p.m. conducted by Tobias Meyer, Worldwide Head of Contemporary Art, Sotheby’s.

Among the celebrities scheduled to attend are: Kathleen Chalfant, Blythe Danner, Rosario Dawson, LisaGay Hamilton, Mariska Hargitay, Jesse L. Martin, Julianne Moore, Mary Testa, Heather Tom, Stanley Tucci and Bree Williamson.

Through this event, Planned Parenthood hopes to raise public awareness and support for its vital mission to advance and protect the fundamental reproductive rights and health of women and men worldwide. Choice Art 2006 comes at a crucial time as we experience what amounts to an all-out assault on reproductive rights and services in the United States.
