From December 3, 2005 to February 3, 2006, the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) will celebrate the inauguration of Miamis newest art space with two curated exhibitions drawn from the Ella Fontanals Cisneros Collection. Originally built in 1936, the warehouse that will be CIFOs exhibition space, located at 1018 North Miami Avenue in the regions burgeoning arts and entertainment district, has been redesigned by Rene Gonzalez Architect, to humanize the urban landscape of Downtown Miamis warehouse district. The CIFO launch will coincide with the latest chapter of Art Basel Miami Beach, one of the worlds premier art festivals.
The inaugural exhibitions: Contemporary photography and video art

CIFOs program of exhibitions is intended to provide access to art from the Ella Fontanals Cisneros Collection, CIFOs own artist-in-residence program, as well as emerging contemporary artists. The exhibitions drawn from its resources are organized thematically by curators known for their ongoing work in a variety of disciplines, demonstrating the highest standards of collecting and curatorial vision.
Beyond Delirious: Architecture in Selected Photographs from the Ella Fontanals Cisneros Collection
Curated by Christopher Phillips, whose background includes curator at the International Center of Photography, New York, and former Senior Editor of Art in America.

Varying in scale from intimate to monumental, and ranging in mood from coolly objective to poetically expressive, the works included in Beyond Delirious examine architectural spaces as a reflection of the cultural life of our times. The artists include such established figures as Edward Ruscha as well as leading younger contemporaries, Uta Barth, Rochelle Costi, Olafur Eliasson, Carlos Garaicoa, Andreas Gursky, Candida Höfer, Sabine Hornig, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Ryuji Miyamoto, Atelier Morales, Gabriel Orozco, Thomas Ruff, Doris Salcedo, Melanie Smith, Thomas Struth, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Frank Thiel and Massimo Vitali. Recent acquisitions in photography included in the show are works by Olivo Barbieri, Stan Douglas, Sze Tsung Leong, Stephan Pascher, Shi Guorui, Caio Reisewitz, Heidi Specker, Wang Qingsong, Sharon Yaari, Yang Zhenzhong and Tsukasa Yokozawa.
Indeterminate States: Video in the Ella Fontanals Cisneros Collection
Curated by Michael Rush, Director of Rose Art Museum of Brandeis University, Waltham, MA.

For this exhibition, Rush has selected videos drawn from the Ella Fontanals Cisneros Collection that are more suggestive than concrete, in a way more abstract. Rush writes that these works are best understood as indeterminate, or mysterious. The video art included in Indeterminate States represents that sensibility.

Among participating artists are William Kentridge, Ana Mendieta, and Melanie Smith and Bill Viola. Recent acquisitions in video included in the show are by, Marina Abramovic, Chantal Akerman, Kutlug Ataman, Sophie Calle, Julian Rosenfeldt, Song Dong, Fiona Tan, Robert Wilson and Francesca Woodman.
CIFO invites you to breakfast on Saturday December 3, Sunday December 4 and Monday December 5.

On Saturday December 3 at 10:30am there will be a guided tour of Beyond Delirious by curator Christopher Phillips followed by a panel discussion with participating artists such as Carlos Garaicoa, Stephan Pascher, Melanie Smith and Shi Guorui.

On Sunday, December 4 at 10:30am there will be a guided tour of Indeterminate States by curator Michael Rush followed by a panel discussion with participating artists such as Marina Abramovic, Julian Rosefeldt, and Song Dong.
