A project of the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste – Städelschule, Frankfurt/Main, in co-operation with Missing Identity, Kosovo, and relations

Curators: Mehmet Behluli (EXIT, Prishtina), Nikola Dietrich (Portikus, Frankfurt/Main), Dirk Fleischmann (Städelschule, Frankfurt/Main)

A year of intense artistic exchange between the cities of Prishtina and Frankfurt am Main now culminates in the project ACADEMY REMIX at Kunsthalle Portikus. The key issue: What is the future of the art academy? The artists involved will show new works and numerous international guest will contribute to the discussion about the future of art teaching. The speakers are:

Joseph Backstein, Ute Meta Bauer, Mehmet Behluli, Sokol Beqiri, Daniel Birnbaum, Saskia Bos, Ekaterina Degot, Branko Dimitrijevic, Okwui Enwezor, Bruce Ferguson, Teresa Gleadowe, Isabelle Graw, Maria Hlavajova, Ronald Jones, Katrin Klingan, Steven Henry Madoff, Joanna Mytkowska, Christa Näher, Dan Perjovschi, Marjetica Potrc, Arturas Raila, Tobias Rehberger, Erzen Shkololli, Simon Starling. Angela Vettese, Florian Waldvogel, Richard Wentworth, Anton Vidokle, Borut Vogelnik, Sislej Xhafa.

Students from the Missing Identity alternative art academy, the Contemporary Art Institute EXIT in Prishtina, and the Frankfurt Städelschule came together to develop individual art projects, which were then realized in Prishtina and Frankfurt/Main. After the presentation at the Museum of Kosovo, Prishtina earlier this fall, the final presentation of the project now takes place in Portikus im Leinwandhaus, Frankfurt/Main.

The presentation in Portikus brings both aspects of the ACADEMY REMIX together: The Kunsthalle is not only an exhibition space for the artists projects, but also the venue for the ACADEMY REMIX SYMPOSIUM.

The symposium, which is held in English, deals with the methods, models and possibilities for art academies today and tomorrow. The discussion is divided into four main sections.
1) Paradigms in art teaching
2) The artist teacher and the art student
3) The art academy between international exchange and the local
4) What is artistic competence and how is it mediated
