DORSKY GALLERY CURATORIAL PROGRAMS is pleased to announce the continuation of its schedule of independently-curated exhibitions of contemporary art. Not to Scale, curated by Euridice Arratia, an independent curator working in New York City, will open on Sunday, April 27th, from 2 to 5 p.m., and will remain on view through June 30th. A color brochure with an essay by the curator will be published to accompany the exhibition.

Not to Scale comprises a group of emerging artists Isidro Blasco, Mari Carmen Carrillo, Ulrike Heydenreich, Patrick Jacobs, Amy Jenkins, Ester Partegás and Katrin Sigurdardottir who experiment with the scale-distortion of objects vis a vis viewer interaction. The artworks featured here stand at the intersection of a visual world shaped by biography and memory and the active experiencing of these worlds by the body of the spectator. Quoting Susan Stewart in her essay, Ms. Arratia writes, The body is our mode of perceiving scale. Through manipulation of conventional scale relationships, the artists of Not to Scale set the body off-balance during the experiencing of their pieces.

The works of this exhibition are perplexing apparitions, which detach one from the surrounding world. They challenge the spectators notions of normality rendering commonplace objects either in miniature or in its antithesis, the gigantic. Ms. Arratia explains: Whereas the miniature presents a vision of interiority and balance, the gigantic conjures up a physical world of disorder and disproportion. These works attempt to convey in their displacement of spaces and altered scales the psychological elasticity of an image that moves us to an unimaginable depth.

DORSKY GALLERY CURATORIAL PROGRAMS is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to present independently-curated exhibitions of contemporary art that explore interesting and timely themes that are relevant to our understanding of visual arts today. Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and by appointment. For further information please contact David Dorsky at (718) 937-6317.
