The New Contemporary Fair, Makes its Debut
27/02/2003 - 03/03/2003

Creating a special niche in the prestigious roster of New York shows,
Art New York celebrates its inaugural fair this spring. An intimate fair
whose purpose is to link curious new collectors with both young and
established galleries, Art New York will offer an eclectic array of
works on paper, paintings, photography, sculpture and objects. The exciting
new contemporary art event will be held in the Javits Galleria, overlooking
the Hudson River and just steps away from the world-renowned Chelsea
gallery district. The show opens with an invitation-only Preview on
Thursday, February 27 and continues through Monday, March 3, 2003.

Art New York is closely associated with Art Miami director Ilana Vardy.
Vardy, along with her team, is serving as a consultant for Art New
York’s launch, working closely with Art New York show director Joyce Jamison on
determining the show’s design, logistics and participating
galleries. Art New York’s multi-tiered marketing program is well underway and
includes VIP mailings, e-mail marketing, public relations, plus national and
local advertising. All are designed to create awareness of Art New York,
firmly establishing its identity among the myriad fairs that take place
throughout the spring.

Truly an international fair, Art New York will showcase art from more
than 12 countries spanning the Americas, Asia and Europe. Collectors will
enjoy a fresh look at contemporary work, much of which is presented by
galleries that have never before shown in New York. A special section of
the show, Currents New York, will be dedicated to young galleries
presenting cutting-edge, emerging artists and providing visitors with an
exciting perspective of local and international trends.

Art New York will kick off on Thursday, February 27, with an
invitation-only opening reception and preview from 5:30 to 9:30 pm.
Exposition hours are from11am to 7pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and
10 am to 2 pm on Monday, March 3, the show’s closing day. Art New
York is open to the public. Daily admission prices are $12 general admission,
$9 for students, seniors and groups; children under 12 are admitted free.
