Konstfack seeks to appoint a Professor in Fine Arts

Konstfack

Konstfack (University College of Arts, Crafts and Design) is an
institute
of higher education with study programs within fine arts, crafts, design
and art teacher training. Common for all study programs at Konstfack is
that they all have an artistic bases. Konstfack has around 600
students
with around 200 teachers and technical/administrative staff.

Konstfack seeks to appoint a Professor in Fine Arts

At the Department of Fine Arts

The position consists of taking responsibility for the artistic
management, administration and development of the different art
traditions, together with the Department’s other professors.

Other tasks include teaching art courses, supervising students together
with administrative tasks.

The professor will follow the students work by having studio talks,
going
through their work, giving critical comment, and artistic supervision.

The position is joined with personal artistic development.

To qualify as a professor within the artistic sphere, evidence of both
artistic and pedagogic ability together with the above tasks must be
shown
(The Higher Education Ordinance, chapter 4 § 6). The applicant should
also show knowledge, experience and the necessary ability needed in
order
to carry out those tasks commensurate with this job.

The professor must have very good theoretical subject understanding,
good
organisational ability, and management abilities combined with practical
experience of artistic supervision.

Knowledge of photographic media, such as photography, video and film
will
be seen as a merit.

The applicant should be at the forefront of his profession, have a broad
artistic ability, together with being well aware of contemporary art and
open to possibilities within the artistic role.

The contract will be 70% of a full-time position, running for a maximum
of a five year tenure, with the opportunity to renew the contract for a
further five years without renewed application. The position to start
at
the beginning of the autumn term 2003 at the latest.

As the majority professors at Konstfack are men, and as the school aims
for a more even distribution between the sexes within all categories,
women are particularly encouraged to apply for the position as professor
of fine arts.

The application should consist of (four copies.):

– A short description of artistic work;

– A short description of teaching experience;

– A curriculum vitae with accompanying copies of certificates and other
relevant testimonials;

– The applicant’s vision of the training within the individual subject
sphere, accompanied by a report of the applicant’s view of being part of
the artistic management in the Department regarding subject area,
teaching
and the development of the artistic work.

Plus three copies of:

10 – 15 samples of personal works.

One copy of the application will be sent to each of the selection panel
members as a basis for their decision.
