The board and staff of Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions and Honorary Chairman Viggo Mortensen are pleased to announce the 23rd Annual Benefit Art Auction for Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, an interdisciplinary contemporary visual arts center located in the heart of Hollywood. Outstanding contemporary artwork, contributed by some of the most important artists working today, will be available and promise to tempt the most nonchalant collector! Offered are original works in watercolor by Ross Bleckner and Andrea Zittel, one-of-a-kind drawings by Ingrid Calame and Mark Licari, a brand new collage by Larry Johnson, recent paintings by Sally Elesby and Monique Van Genderen, prints by Robert Indiana and Ed Ruscha, and so much more. And, just in case this is not enough, a limited edition print by Raymond Pettibon, made expressly for Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions’ benefit in an edition of 100, will be available at a steal — only $200! This pre-eminent event is a highlight on the calendars of contemporary art collectors nation-wide.

Approximately 45 works of art will be auctioned live by a Sotheby’s auctioneer on Tuesday 17 September 2002. Doors will open at 6:30 pm at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions for art viewing, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres. The live auction will begin at 8:00 pm and will be held at sixteen-fifty, the nightclub next door. Viggo Mortensen, an artist, poet, and well-known actor, is the event’s chairman as well as a contributing artist.

Themed around “Hollywood,” the auction will spin off its glamorous side while getting down and dirty with its vibrant yet seedy reality. “How to Survive in Hollywood” gift bags will feature a variety of fun items including temporary tattoos, beauty treatments, discount cards to American Cinematheque, a little something sexy, the latest issue of Flaunt magazine and other Hollywood necessities. Raffle items include a designer dress by successful local designer Claire Joseph, a group tour to Hollywood Forever Cemetery, dinner for two at the beautiful, newly-designed Hollywood and Vine Diner, accommodations at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel, and more. An after-party will ensue at sixteen-fifty immediately following the live auction.
