“Finally, finally we have Bookforum – a smart, vital, edgy magazine about the living art of writing. It’s an answered prayer.”
-Michael Cunningham, author of The Hours

Bookforum is pleased to announce its Winter 2001 issue, featuring a cover story on German émigré director Fritz Lang by Geoffrey O’Brien.

In addition to its regular Fiction Forecast and First Novels column, the Winter 2001 Fiction section, the second under the helm on fiction editor Albert Mobilio, includes an interview with novelist Evan S. Connell; Francisco Goldman on Mario Vargas Llosa’s new novel, The Feast of the Goat; Jonathan Ames on the collected works of Isaac Babel; Catherine Texier on Herta Müller’s novel, The Appointment; crime writer Lawrence Block on hard-boiled master Charles Willeford; and Ben Marcus on experimental novelist Ann Quin.

The Art & Culture section features Arthur C. Danto on Proust and Photography; Luc Sante on Postwar America; Jerry Stahl on punk icon Richard Hell; Nuar Alsadir on dance legend Isadora Duncan; Erik Davis on the golden age of videogame design; Sam Lipsyte on the strange new links between art and wrestling; and a special roundup of recent photography books that acquired added resonance in the wake of September 11.

“As other book reviews atrophy, Bookforum bursts forward with a wonderfully engaging mix. Every issue is a collector’s item-don’t miss it.”
-A.M. Homes, author of Music for Torching

“Bookforum gives the stodgy, arthritic regulars in the field a scare they need and deserve.”
-Rick Moody, author of Demonology
