The UBC Department of Fine Arts invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in Studio Art, at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2001.  

The Department of Fine Arts at UBC partners its studio program with a strong art history program, integrating the visual arts and art theory within the departmental curriculum. The department is associated with a leading contemporary art gallery and an internationally recognized anthropology museum.

The successful candidates will have the following qualifications:
– an MFA degree or equivalent
– an active exhibition record, including international, and related publications
– the capacity to teach at all levels from foundations to graduate courses
– strong commitment to administrative responsiblities and to curriculum development
– knowledge of contemporary theory and art practices

We seek a candidate who has a strong interest in both theoretical and practical aspects of electronic and photographic imaging, and possesses a demonstrated expertise in the theory and history of photography. 

Applicants should submit the following package before January 15, 2001:
– an application letter including a statement of interest, professional strengths and teaching philosophy
– visual documentation of current work (eg: 20 slides, video, CD Rom)
– relevant publications including authored works as well as reviews 
– detailed curriculum vitae
– the names, addresses and emails of three professional references

Interviewing will also be conducted at the College Art Association Conference in Chicago, February 2001. Applicants attending the conference should note this in their application package and may be notified for an interview.
