apexart is pleased to announce the winning exhibitions for next season’s International Franchise Program. Using our unique online voting system, more than 200 jurors from around the world selected 4 winning proposals from over 400 anonymous submissions.

In first place: A Glimmer of Freedom, to be presented in Tarrafal, Cape Verde

Using site-specific installations and land art, this exhibition explores the history of an abandoned prison that held political prisoners during the 20th century.

In second place: Illegal Kosmonavtika, to be presented in Tbilisi, Georgia
Submitted by: Magda Guruli, Mariam Natroshvili
Through workshops, a zine, and artworks, this project resurrects and examines Soviet Cosmonautics for the generations that came of age after its decline in 1991.

In third place: Guis Sou Me Le Mbao (I Do Not See You at Mbao), to be presented in Thiaroye, Senegal
Submitted by: Claude Gomis, Saskia Koebschall
The 1944 massacre of African soldiers conscripted by the French army inspires this exhibition’s investigation of postcolonial politics of memory and modes of resistance.

In fourth place: Bad-ass” Kurdish “Warrior-Divas,” to be presented in Berlin, Germany
Submitted by: Shawna Vesco and Anne Wheeler
This exhibition troubles the glamorization of the all-women factions of freedom fighters battling ISIS in Iraq and Syria, by examining feminism within the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party).

apexart’s International Franchise Program is an annual open call for small, focused, idea-driven group exhibitions to be presented anywhere in the world except New York City. Winning proposals will be presented as part of apexart's upcoming 2016-17 exhibition program in the cities noted.
