The exhibition Abandoned Futures. Tomorrow Was Already the Question opens the 2014/2015 season at Fabra i Coats – Contemporary Art Centre.
Martí Peran is the curator of the project selected for the next season of shows at the art centre.
The project presented by critic and curator Martí Peran will comprise three exhibitions between October 2014 and August 2015: Abandoned Futures. Tomorrow Was Already the Question (October 2014 – January 2015), After Landscape. Copied Cities (February–May 2015) and General, Vague Indisposition. In Praise of Fatigue (June–August 2015).
The project as a whole—which is accompanied by a series of activities and an extensive educational programme—aims to draw on a range of different perspectives to offer an overview and explore the poverty of experience that is frequently mentioned when defining the nature of contemporary life. The curator sees a certain symmetry in the criteria and work dynamics behind the three shows: they feature work by both consolidated artists and up-and-coming young talent, they show acclaimed work alongside new pieces, and they stress the relationships between the different participants in each exhibition with the city’s cultural agents.
The first show, Abandoned Futures. Tomorrow Was Already the Question, opens on 17 October and will be on until 18 January 2015.
Martí Peran’s project was selected from the 27 projects by local and overseas curators shortlisted following the call for projects by Barcelona City Council’s Culture Institute in May. The selection committee was made up of Bartomeu Marí, director of the Barcelona Contemporary Art Museum (Macba); Conxita Oliver, director of Arts Santa Mònica; Daniel Giralt-Miracle, a member of the executive committee of the Barcelona Board of Culture; gallery director Miquel Ángel Sánchez; curators Martí Manen, David Armengol and David G Torres; Oriol Gual, director of La Capella; and Llucià Homs, director for the Promotion of Cultural Sectors at Barcelona City Council’s Culture Institute.
