Celebrating their new album, I am a Bird Now, Antony and the Johnsons, joined by ground-breaking film director and video artist Charles Atlas, journey through a psychic landscape of innocence, metamorphosis, and androgyny in a real-time, live video event featuring a cast of thirteen Beauties. Antony’s hauntingly evocative voice has been compared to everyone from Nina Simone to Lotte Lenya. Laurie Anderson has called it, “the most exquisite thing that you will hear in your life.”

The ensemble–string trio, piano, bass and drums–uses lush yet minimal orchestrations that are highly dramatic, emotional, and lyrical. Infused with Atlas’ provocative, postmodern sensibility, Turning creates a vivid time capsule in the tradition of Atlas’s extravagantly stylized, award-winning collaborations with such pioneers as Merce Cunningham, Michael Clark, Leigh Bowery, and John Kelly.
For tickets call 718-254-8779, or visit Other Music at 15 E. 4th Street, NYC (cash only).

Antony will also perform May 7th at the Whitney Museum as part of the Biennial SoundCheck program. SoundCheck is a series at the Whitney, offering live music, literary and cultural events on select Friday evenings.

The 2004 Biennial Exhibition continues at the Whitney Museum of American Art, 945 Madison Avenue at 75th Street, through May 30.
