artbrussels, one of the most important events in European contemporary art, is the annual meeting point of collectors, curators, artists, trendsetters and other art lovers from all over Europe. The 22nd edition of the fair welcomes 145 galleries presenting over 1 000 artists, in Brussels, centre and capital of Europe. artbrussels owes its standing and high-quality image first and foremost to the way in which it succeeds in bringing together under one roof established international artists and new upcoming talent.

From the 300 galleries that applied to this year’s edition, only a strict selection of 145 qualitative galleries is admitted. artbrussels 2004 has been upgraded by 33 newly admitted galleries. “Among the ones participating for the first time, we’re very happy to welcome Barbara Gladstone (New York), Beaumont Public (Luxembourg), 1000 Eventi, Perugi & Zonca and Zonca (Italy) JMG and Lelong (Paris), Sutton Lane (London) and Millan (Sao Paolo). In the “Young Galleries” section, new up coming galleries will present their promising artists; d’Amelio Terras, Maccarone and Slingshot (New York) and Kwai Po Collection (Hong Kong). These outstanding new participants will make artbrussels even more attractive for connoisseurs from all over Europe” comments Karen Renders, Director of the fair.

Charmed by its selection of internationally renowned galleries and its intimacy, more than 30.000 art lovers will take the opportunity of the first spring days to visit artbrussels, 20% travelling from abroad and combining their visit with an Easter break in the capital of Europe.
News
Young galleries artbrussels 2004 will once again present a skilful blend of international young market players. These young exhibitors are grouped in the “young galleries” section. This year, 21 of them will take the opportunity to exhibit new talent.
One-man-shows
The 28 “One-man-shows” bring even more focus to the ground-breaking and innovative character of artbrussels and provide a unique opportunity for young artists to profile themselves next to top international names.
Collectors Committee artbrussels launches the innovative “Collectors Committee”. Its purpose is pointing out the needs and wishes of collectors in order to make artbrussels even more attractive to its visitors. This year, the Collectors Committee will designate the best one-man-show and attribute him or her the Illy-price.
The “VIP Privilege” programme
Every year artbrussels invites some 300 collectors to participate in an exciting cultural programme. Private visits to museums and private collections offer them the unique opportunity to see collections that are not open to the public. This year’s highlights are the retrospective of Jean Arp at the Palais des Beaux Arts and an exhibition of Ferninand Khnopff at the Musees Royaux des Beaux Arts de Belgique. Most exceptional will be the visits to the corporate collections of Belgacom and Lhoist Groupe.
