Badlands Unlimited presents New Lovers
Tuesday, March 10, 7pm
Join us for the launch of New Lovers, a new book series by Paul Chan’s press, Badlands Unlimited. Presented in conjunction with The Hugo Boss Prize 2014: Paul Chan, Nonprojections for New Lovers, the New Lovers series features emerging writers and artists who use the genre of erotica to explore the complexities that bedevil contemporary life, culture, and art. Inspired by radical publisher Maurice Girodias and his Olympia Press, New Lovers offers readers a chance to turn on and tune in to new voices in art and literature. New Lovers authors Wednesday Black, Andrea McGinty, and Lilith Wes will read from their books, followed by a conversation with Chan, and a book signing. The program concludes with an exhibition viewing and a reception in the Guggenheim rotunda.

An Evening with Monir
Thursday, March 12, 6pm
On the occasion of the exhibition, Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian: Infinite Possibility. Mirror Works and Drawings, 1974–2014, Monir will join artist Frank Stella and curator Suzanne Cotter for an intimate reflection on her artistic practice, attitudes towards abstraction, and the artistic centers of Tehran and New York in the 1960s and 1970s. The conversation will follow a screening of Monir (2014), a documentary directed by Bahman Kiarostami and produced by Leyla Fakhr. Includes exhibition viewing and reception

Duologues On Kawara
Conceived by exhibition curator Jeffrey Weiss, this dynamic series of paired talks positions On Kawara within an interdisciplinary world context. Diverse engagements with the artist’s work include themes of everyday life, globalism, politics, language, travel, and pictorial abstraction.
David Batchelor and Briony Fer
Tuesday, March 24, 6:30pm
Artist David Batchelor and art historian Briony Fer come together to consider Kawara’s Today series of Date Paintings through the lenses of the practical, aesthetic, and conceptual history of color in the context of modern and postmodern pictorial abstraction.

Emily Jacir and Nikos Papastergiadis
Tuesday, March 31, 6:30pm
Drawing upon themes of tourism, migration, displacement, and exile, transnational artist Emily Jacir and internationally renowned cultural historian Nikos Papastergiadis shed light upon Kawara’s practice with a discussion about the strategic function of travel, the artist’s studio as an unfixed site, and personal, social, and political identity.
