Vera List Center for Art and Politics

An audacious primer for the privileged, How to Rule the World for Fun and Profit is an activist’s handbook by Billionaires for Bush, a do-it-yourself street theater and agit-prop performance group in the tradition of the Dadaists, Fluxus artists and other honorably revolutionary artists. Founded in 2003, Billionaires for Bush is organized as a 527 independent members-committee, with headquarters in New York City and over 70 chapters nationwide. The Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School is the only organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to investigating the intersection of art and politics. Prompted by the Bush administration’s creation of the new 180,000 employee-Department of Homeland Security, the programs of the Vera List Center in the academic year 2004/2005 will focus on the concept of “homeland.” Scholars, architects, politicians, filmmakers, historians, and visual and performance artists will be brought together to examine this concept from a variety of perspectives. Each academic year, the Vera List Center highlights a timely topic in its public programs. This event is organized in conjunction with a panel discussion on parody and political action and culture, to be presented by the Vera List Center after the American elections in late fall.
