EXTRA / How Many Extra Layers Can We Graft Onto Reality Before It Collapses?

TUESDAY MAY 6, 2003, 6 – 8 PM at the SI

With a special presentation of the 25 visual essays by artists for EXTRA; Featuring the New York premier of Christian Jankowski’s new video, “This I Play Tomorrow” and EXTRA videos by Peter Fischli / David Weiss and Roman Signer; plus a performance by Jah-Jah at 7.30 PM

With EXTRA, 28 artists have come together, joined by critics, curators and physicists to expose the depth and complexity of reality in a grand collaboration. Each artist has contributed an original visual essay in full color. Their images are complimented by several fascinating texts. David Deutsch and Seth Lloyd, Quantum Physicists, deliver a passionate round of “Brain Tennis” in their correspondence discussing the concept of multiple universes. Marc-Olivier Wahler’s text about gliding through the folds of reality is an intricate companion to his exhibition. The texts of art critic Bob Nickas and several artists (John Giorno, Jutta Kother, Olivier Mosset and Steven Parrino) serve to round out and complete this multilayered collaboration.

EXTRA original visual essays by: Virginie Barré, Olivier Blanckart, Olaf Breuning, Stéphane Dafflon, Wim Delvoye, Daniel Firman, Urs Fischer, Peter Fischli / David Weiss, Sylvie Fleury, Gelatin, John Giorno, Janine Gordon, Fabrice Gygi, Lori Hersberger, Christian Jankowski, Jutta Koether, Olivier Mosset, Gianni Motti, Erik Parker, Steven Parrino, Bruno Peinado, Ugo Rondinone, Jean-Claude Ruggirello, Stéphane Sautour, Jim Shaw, Roman Signer, Olav Westphalen and Erwin Wurm.
