CATHERINE OPIE NAMED 2004 LARRY ALDRICH AWARD RECIPIENT

The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is pleased to announce that Catherine Opie has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious Larry Aldrich Award for 2004. The Aldrich will mount an exhibition of Opie’s work, tentatively scheduled for 2006, in conjunction with this Award.

The annual Larry Aldrich Award honors an American artist whose work has had a significant impact on contemporary visual culture during the previous three years. An independent jury of artists, collectors, critics, curators, and gallerists selects the winner. Since 1995, the honoree receives $25,000 and the opportunity for an exhibition at The Aldrich. Previous winners of the Award are David Hammons, 2003; Fred Wilson, 2002; Mark Dion, 2001; Doug Aitken, 2000; Janine Antoni, 1999; Ann Hamilton, 1998; Charles Ray, 1997; Robert Gober, 1996; Bruce Nauman, 1995; Cindy Sherman, 1994; and Elizabeth Murray, 1993.

ON VIEW AT THE ALDRICH
Shahzia Sikander: Nemesis, a solo exhibition of over 50 works on paper, wall drawings, and digital animation on view through January 5, 2005; Bottle: Contemporary Art and Vernacular Tradition, a group exhibition of twenty-six artists on view through April 8, 2005; and David Opdyke: 2004 Aldrich Emerging Artist Award Recipient, new and recent work by the artist in the Museum’s Leir Gallery on view through January 5, 2005. Other exhibition projects include: Aldrich at the Movies; Michael Rees: Large and Moving; and Jonathan Seliger: Politeness Counts, all on view through January 5, 2005.
