In 2013, the Daimler Art Collection began adding a significant new aspect to its international profile, with the acquisition of more than 40 artworks by about 20 Chinese artists. Since April 2014, these new acquisitions have been presented to the public in an exhibition series at Daimler Contemporary Berlin. The first part of the exhibition series, entitled From a Poem to the Sunset, can be visited until October 18, 2015. The upcoming show On Curbstone Jewels and Cobblestones will open on Thursday, November 12, 2015.

The exhibition series is accompanied by a varied program of events, with lectures, talks, readings and discussions featuring artists, curators and theorists. These events will be concerned with the works of individual artists, but above all with issues relating to current developments in Chinese contemporary art. A key event in the supporting program is a symposium in Berlin, where high-profile experts from China, Europe, and America will participate. The symposium will kick off on September 15, 2015 with an artist talk with Cao Fei (Beijing), accompanied by the book launch of the Daimler Art Collection Artist Book #7, entitled Cao Fei. I watch that worlds pass by. A moderated discussion between Carol Yinghua Lu (Beijing) and Anselm Franke (Berlin) will introduce the symposium, both of whom have been responsible for important exhibitions in China and in Europe. The keynote lectures on September 16, 2015 will concentrate on the major media and their significance to Chinese contemporary art.

The detailed program can be found on our homepage. The symposium will be conducted in English and is free of admission charge. If you would like to attend, please send a registration email to wiebke.hahn [at] daimler.com.

The symposium, as well as the related events to the exhibition series, were conceived by Renate Wiehager, Christian Ganzenberg and Andreas Schmid.
