Rineke Dijkstra Portraits
After Paris, Winterthur and Barcelona, the travelling exhibition Rineke Dijkstra – Portraits will arrive at its main station: Stedelijk Museum CS. The exhibition includes 75 photo works by the Dutch photographer done since the early 1990s, such as the world-famous beach portraits, the photographs of bullfighters after leaving the ring, and of male and female Israeli soldiers. Two video installations have also been included. This is the first time that Dijkstras work has been shown in the broad context of her other projects. A small supplement of the most recent work by Dijkstra has now been added especially for the present exhibition in Stedelijk Museum CS, including work taken in the Vondelpark in Amsterdam.

Rineke Dijkstra (b. 1959) gained international fame for her impressive series of portraits. The best known are the magisterial series Beach Portraits, comprising sober, frontal shots of young people on beaches in the United States, The Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and the Ukraine. In this series Dijkstra concentrated on the moment that a pose is just gelling, or just being abandoned. Hesitation and uncertainty are visible in the body language and gaze, and refer to the existential loneliness of adolescence. The barren surroundings, the rather low camera angle and the use of fill-in flash serve to sharpen the often strongly culturally defined details and create images with a monumental presence.
Rineke Dijkstra Portraits opens in Stedelijk Museum CS on November 3 2005 at 17:00h and will be on show until February 6, 2006.

Vito Hannibal Acconci Studio. Word / Action / Architecture
The oeuvre of Vito Acconci (b. 1940) is characterised by great artistic diversity. Where poems, photographs and performances played a central role in his early work, recently projects in public space, under the name of Acconci Studio, have taken central stage. The retrospective exhibition Vito Hannibal Acconci Studio Word / Action / Architecture in Stedelijk Museum CS not only devotes attention to the earlier work of this American artist, but also to these more recent architectural projects. On show until January 8, 2006

Yang Fudong Recent films and videos
The Chinese filmmaker / artist Yang Fudong (b. 1971) experiences the radical changes in contemporary Chinese society daily. The alienation that these changes are creating is a recurrent theme in his work. With an amalgam of nostalgia, romanticism and parody, he mixes traditional Chinese values and the influences of Western film and video culture into idiosyncratic but also very recognisable images.

Seven of his films, two of his video installations, and two photo series by him are being shown in the exhibition in Stedelijk Museum CS. On show until January 15, 2006.
