photo MIAMI, the acclaimed contemporary international fair of photo-based art, video, and new media, returns this December with an international roster of galleries from Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and the U.S. Coinciding with Art Basel Miami Beach, the fair, entitled A Year of Magical Thinking, offers collectors, curators, and patrons an immediate overview of the new global art market.

photo MIAMI was recently acquired by FOTOmarkt, a group of investors passionate about photo-based art. Owners Steve Eshelman and Marisa Arango commented, “photo MIAMI features critically relevant work by established and emerging artists from the U.S. and abroad. We’re thrilled to have the curatorial talent of Isolde Brielmaier, Charles Guice, and Brookie Maxwell, all whom are making significant impact in the contemporary art market.”

“Envisioning photo MIAMI as a truly international fair, we traveled to biennials around the world, engaging in profound conversations about art with artists, collectors and curators as we shaped the fair,” added Guice. “Our creative vision extends from Vilém Flusser to Anna Mendieta. It embodies the ongoing dialogue between artist and viewer, artist and environment, and artist and patron. This year of global economic turmoil has shaken our sensibilities while reminding us that safety is an illusion, that crisis is an opportunity, and that art is not an expression of safety; it’s expression of being alive.”
