Roy Lichtenstein: Opera Prima
Curated by Danilo Eccher

GAM-Torino showcases the first and largest exhibition in Italy devoted to the works on paper by Roy Lichtenstein (New York, 1923–1997) an undisputed master of Pop Art. Thanks to a close collaboration with the Estate and the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation, for the first time 235 works have been brought to Italy from prestigious museums worldwide, like the National Gallery of Washington, the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum in New York, the Art Institute in Chicago and from American, European and Italian public and private collections.

This exhibition, curated by Danilo Eccher, GAM Director, shows the most intimate and private part of Roy Lichtenstein’s oeuvre, his First Ideas, analysing both his style variations in the creative process behind the works on paper, and the incredible literary world feeding Lichtenstein’s images, his narrative model made of surprising combinations of stories and pictures.

The exhibition is accompanied by a book published by Skira collecting important critical texts featuring, alongside an essay by Danilo Eccher, a valuable testimony of Dorothy Lichtenstein.

Cecily Brown
Curated by Danilo Eccher

One of the world’s most celebrated artists, Cecily Brown was born in 1969 in London. Acclaimed by some of the protagonists of culture, music and the fashion scene, her works have reached in the past years outstanding quotations and are part of the world’s foremost collections. Turin’s special event, the first large exhibition in an Italian institution with approximately 50 works, after a smaller preview in 2003 at Macro Roma, again curated by Danilo Eccher, GAM Director, will give the public a privileged and direct access to the works coming from the artist’s studio and from some of the richest American and European private collections.

GAM exhibition, held in the spaces of Underground Project, introduces and thoroughly examines the artistic research of Cecily Brown thanks to an outstanding body of works: 18 large paintings, 24 works on paper among pencil and ink, gouache and watercolour together with seven  monotypes. This exhibition will be accompanied by a Silvana Editoriale catalogue with critical texts by Danilo Eccher and Alessandro Rabottini.

This exhibition was made possible through generous support from Gagosian Gallery.
