ART COLOGNE 2005 First art fair with exhibition character Novel presentation concept open to discussion in Cologne Press contact: Neumann Luz, Roonstraße 108, D-50674 Cologne phone 49(0)221 258 4773, fax 49(0)221 258 4774, e-mail team@neumann-luz.de http://www.artcologne.com From New York to Tokyo, from London to Milan: the international participant list for OPEN SPACE has been finalised. The idea for a complementary concept for the ART COLOGNE has been accepted and presents itself for discussion between October 28 and November 1, 2005. The jury, comprising Yilmaz Dziewior (Director of the Kunstverein in Hamburg), Carol Greene (Greene Naftali Gallery, New York), Joanna Kamm (Galerie Kamm, Berlin), Holger Liebs (art critic for Süddeutsche Zeitung, Munich), Markus Lüttgen (Johnen Galerie, Berlin), Christian Nagel (Galerie Christian Nagel, Cologne / Berlin) and Maureen Paley (Maureen Paley, London), supported by Gérard A. Goodrow (Director of the ART COLOGNE), has selected around 40 international galleries from in excess of 100 applications. Following the establishment of various new art fairs over the past few years and the rheinschau 2004, it is once again Cologne that is setting the benchmark for a new presentation within the fiercely competitive art fair market: OPEN SPACE, the first art fair without traditional booth presentations, which has the character of an exhibition and which frees art from rabbit hutches, claims Christian Nagel, Jury Member and consultant for the project. The consciously selected discussion format of OPEN SPACE is designed with its own, autonomous architecture. Commenting on it is exhibition architect Meyer Voggenreiter: We are pursuing a more urban approach than a museum character. The various contributions of the participants form the basis for the development of a high-density public space, which takes its form and rhythm solely from the spatial constellation of the artistic positions. The various service areas, such as information point, media lounge, bar and work space, will also be integrated into this landscape of artistic discourse, tension and interactions. The participant list comprises a balanced mix of established and newcomer international gallery experts: Arndt & Partner, Berlin Catherine Bastide, Brussels Bleich-Rossi, Graz Daniel Buchholz, Cologne Gisela Capitain, Cologne Deweer Art Gallery, Otegem Thomas Erben, New York Fahnemann, Berlin Frehrking Wiesehöfer, Cologne SixFriedrichLisaUngar, Munich Gray Kapernekas, New York Greene Naftali, New York Ernst Hilger, Vienna Michael Janssen, Cologne Iris Kadel, Karlsruhe Kamm, Berlin Georg Kargl, Vienna Ben Kaufmann, Munich / Berlin Krinzinger, Vienna Loevenbruck, Paris / Guy Bärtschi, Geneva Gió Marconi, Milan Matthew Marks, New York Meerrettich, Berlin Robert Miller, New York Magnus Müller, Berlin nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder, Vienna Christian Nagel, Cologne / Berlin Art Contemporain Nosbaum & Reding, Luxembourg Maureen Paley, London Friedrich Petzel, New York Thomas Rehbein, Cologne Ruzicska, Salzburg Aurel Scheibler, Cologne Otto Schweins, Cologne Gabriele Senn, Vienna Sies Höke, Düsseldorf Sprüth / Magers Projekte, Cologne / Munich Taka Ishii, Tokyo Wilma Tolksdorf, Frankfurt am Main / Berlin Unlimited Contemporary Art, Athens Fons Welters, Amsterdam Zink & Gegner, Munich OPEN SPACE is a project of the Cologne-based agency Neumann Luz in cooperation with ART COLOGNE.
