Part 1 of the first purely online issue of Circa Art Magazine is now live. We have asked a group of writers to tackle Circa’s core activity: criticism and criticality.

Contents of Issue 131, Part 1, of Circa Art Magazine

Peter FitzGerald (Editor): Introduction

Declan Long: “An avalanche, a transformation…”
Suzanne van der Lingen: Critical Masses: Towards a New Medium for Art Criticism
Chris Fite-Wassilak: The Hope for an Open Wound
Sarah Tuck: Art Criticism – Disrupting or Creating Consensus?
Matt Packer: Critical Fantasies
Maria Fusco: Say who I am: Or a Broad Private Wink
Imelda Barnard: Art Criticism and Writing as Failure: “That is not what I meant at all.”

Part 2 will consist of responses to the texts in Part 1.

In parallel, Circa will continue to present online reviews and feature articles relating to contemporary art in or from Ireland, as well as news, podcasts, and a great deal of other content.

To access Issue 131, which is available free as online texts or as PDFs, go to www.recirca.com

Circa is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. In existence now for almost 30 years, it is the journal of record for contemporary art in Ireland.
