Flash Art
Essential reading for what promises to be a long, hot summer, the July-September issue of Flash Art is now out, offering news and views of all the latest contemporary art from around the world.
Flash Art goes to Venice: Jerry Saltz has a rant about the curating of the 51st Venice Biennale, Andrea Bellini offers an overview of the most successful pavilions and works, and in a special extra section, the Biennale is documented in images.
Painting: the readers of Flash Art conduct an interview with the old master of contemporary art, John Currin. Simone Neuenschwander explores the Polish references and sources in the work of Wilhelm Sasnal, with whom Flash Art also conducts an interview this issue.
Latin America: Mariana David considers the notion of Latin America in the light of recent developments in the social, cultural and political life of Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Argentina, while Reinaldo Laddaga discusses collective action and everyday life in the region. Pascal Beausse brings us face to face with death in the disturbing and morbid practice of Teresa Margolles.
Elsewhere in the issue, Flash Art grabs a hard hat and torch to go tunneling with Hans Schabus, climbs a volcano during the Reykjavik Arts Festival, and flies in to Prague for the Prague Biennale 2. This issues Aperto section surveys the current scene in San Francisco, the Ouverture is devoted to Scoli Acosta, and Global Art to Nathan Coley.
