VOLTA NY is thrilled to announce its new location for 2013: 82MERCER in SoHo, New York. The Mercer Street building’s 50,000-square-foot exhibition space, comprising two floors and daylight loft-like spaces, will provide a handsome platform for VOLTA NY’s strictly solo-project format, featuring a broad international roster as well as significant local representation.

“The move to SoHo takes VOLTA NY into a neighborhood that precisely reflects our attitude,” said Amanda Coulson, VOLTA’sArtistic Director, about the fair’s new home. “It’s a creative incubator, experimental, supportive of new ideas and of doing things with some extra flair.”

The82MERCER venue situates VOLTA NY within walking distance to The Bowery and the vibrant Lower East Side gallery scene. Plus, in moving to a neighborhood bearing the legacy of archetypal 1970s artists’ workshop 112 Greene Street and progressive institutions like The New Museum, VOLTA NY reemphasizes its mission to promote challenging, emerging international talent and relevant contemporary positions, regardless of the artist or gallery’s age.

As in years past, a regular shuttle bus service will run between VOLTA NYand The Armory Show during fair hours. Plus, a total of five subway lines provide easy access to VOLTA NY: six blocks east from Spring Street Station (C/E Trains), three blocks west from Spring Street Station (6 Train), or two blocks south and one block west from Prince Street Station (N/R Trains).

VOLTA 9

June 10–15, 2013

Application now online

Additionally, VOLTA is pleased to announce that applications are now online for VOLTA9, occurring Monday, June 10, through Saturday, June 15, at Basel’s Dreispitzhalle. Building on its acclaimed debut in 2005 and named by artnet Magazine as “the most established of the Art Basel satellite fairs”, VOLTA champions both young and established galleries representing salient contemporary positions.

Since its inception, dozens of VOLTA galleries have “graduated” to the main fairs at Art Basel or Art Basel Miami Beach, while others have appeared at Frieze, in both the main and Frame sections, as well as at The Armory Show. Likewise, artists including Sanja Iveković, Adrian Williams, Theaster Gates, Anastasia Khoroshilova, Tris Vonna-Michell, and Chris Johansson, featured in such prestigious venues as the Athens Biennale, the Orangerie (Paris), dOCUMENTA (13), Art Statements, and Art Basel’s Art Parcours, had earlier featured showings at VOLTA.

VOLTA has proven again and again to be a great source of undiscovered art and artists to collectors and museums alike.

Over 16,000 collectors, curators, critics, and visitors attended the 2012 fair, and the encouraging response to its numerous solo showcases and thoughtfully conceived booth presentations, coupled with strong support for VOLTA NY’s solo-project format, motivates VOLTA9 to promote the strongest, most focused artistic experience yet.
