SPECIAL: EXPANDING ACADEMY
Academies are the most successful institutions in the world of art at present. Whereas museums, art centres, and biennials are the frequent target of criticism, art academies are experiencing a golden era. Bulwarks of knowledge, information hubs, meeting points, creativity centres, exhibition and conference areas academies are where it’s at in art right now.

ESSAYS BY JAN VERWOERT, ROBERT GARNETT, PAUL ELLIMAN
METROPOLIS M presents several views of critics and artists on art centres that want to be academies and academies that are turning into art centres. With essays by Jan Verwoert, Robert Garnett and Paul Elliman on art after the Didactic Turn. The artists Willem de Rooij and Simon Starling speak about the practice of teaching at academies. And we present a few portraits of young artists who have just graduated.

INTERVIEWS WITH DAN PERJOVSCHI, ANJ SMITH, CORA ROORDA VAN EISINGA
The issue also features interviews with Dan Perjovschi on surreptitious rebellion, Anj Smith on her obsessive painting and Cora Roorda van Eisinga on her filmed reflections on manipulation.

AND FURTHER
Articles on the popularity of the lector of arts at art academies, the love of the object in contemporary design and the fascination artists have for supermodel Kate Moss.

METROPOLIS M, bimonthly magazine on contemporary art and design, is an equally tolerant and headstrong commentator on new developments in art and design, which it tries to put into prospective through critical discussion.
