Secession

Barbara Holub, born in 1959 in Stuttgart, lived in Salzburg from 1964 through 1977, before studying architecture. Since then, her work as an artist has focused on questions of the public domain and communications. In 1999, together with Paul Rajakovics, she founded “transparadiso”, a platform for projects spanning urbanism, art, and architecture. The electoral procedure, the subject of heated debate prior to the vote, led to the formation of an almost entirely new board, rather than following the alternative suggestion made by Barbara Holub of allowing individual candidates to be chosen from a list. The board is constituted as follows: Thomas Baumann Sabine Bitter, Vice President Christoph Hinterhuber Barbara Holub, President Nicolas Jasmin (N.I.C.J.O.B.) Johanna Kandl Anna Meyer Flora Neuwirth Werner Reiterer, Vice President Eva Schlegel Ingeborg Strobl Christian Teckert Martin Walde Besides continuing to position itself within the international context, the Secession also plans to experiment with cultural practices. This will involve a questioning of the borders, limits, and transitions between various genres and deep-rooted notions of artistic production. The institution of the artists’ association will be treated as a place of discourse where conditions and mechanisms of presentation can be negotiated, and where additional new forms can be worked towards. In the coming months, the new board will address the issue of the forms that might be taken by a timely, advanced, artist-run institution. The exhibition program is fixed until the end of June 2007. The new board looks forward to working on these exhibitions and will be drawing up the program from summer 2007 over the coming months.
