Sunday Sessions this month includes presentations, panels, performances, and even stand-up routines which explore culturally relevant topics, such as dance as an autonomous medium; the relationship between comedy and art; and translating sculptural practice into the public realm. The programs feature artists Valérie Blass, Katinka Bock, Matt Connors, Edie Fake, R.E.H. Gordon, Esther Kläs, M.I.A., Alexis Blair Penney, and Allyson Vieira; choreographer Mårten Spångberg; comics Eugene Mirman, Jerrod Carmichael and Morgan Murphy; and curators Peter Eleey, Andria Hickey, and Jamillah Jones.

Join us on November 18 to celebrate the opening of Huma Bhabha: Unnatural Histories and Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt. The opening celebration will include artist and curator lectures as part of Center for Experimental Lectures; a book launch and conversation with artist Matt Connors; Jim Jarmusch and Jozef Van Wissem’s album release; a cash bar; and delicious eats provided by M. Wells. The exhibitions Now Dig This! Art and Black Los Angeles 1960–1980, New Pictures of Common Objects, and Matt Connors: Impressionism will also be on view.

Launch of HEJ: a print-curatorial project
4–5pm, ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 | Magazine Store
ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 | Magazine Store invites you to an afternoon celebrating the launch of HEJ: a print-curatorial project. HEJ is proud to release its first issue, a publication featuring interdisciplinary work by an international group of 25 artists, writers, and curators.  Rigorously curated, HEJ balances theoretical and aesthetic concerns, while considering, in print format, the rapid changes in artistic dialogue within the context of the Internet.  In celebration of its first issue, contributors to and friends of HEJ will present visual, written, and performative works.

SUNDAY SESSIONS WITH CENTER FOR EXPERIMENTAL LECTURES, MATT CONNORS, JIM JARMUSCH AND JOSEF VAN WISSEM
Sunday, November 18, 12–6pm, the VW Performance Dome

R.E.H. Gordon presents Center for Experimental Lectures, with Edie Fake, Jamillah James and Alexis Blair Penney
2–4pm
Center for Experimental Lectures is an ongoing project series conceived and organized by artist R.E.H. Gordon, in which artists, theorists, and other cultural producers experiment with the format of the public lecture. Artist Edie Fake, curator Jamillah Jones and drag performer and artist Alexis Blair Penney each play with the format of the artist lecture in an innovative and provocative manner.

Matt Connors in Conversation with Peter Eleey
4–5pm
On the occasion of the publication of A Bell is a Cup coinciding with Matt Connors’s exhibition at MoMA PS1, the artist holds a conversation with curator Peter Eleey. Alongside texts by Eleey, Michel Leiris, Gertrude Stein and Jack Spicer, the book presents the first comprehensive gathering of Connors’s work to date. In his essay, Eleey writes that Connors’s paintings “bear traces of one another, but they also sometimes prop each other up or lean into each other as if to physically reinforce, in painterly terms, Jack Spicer’s ideas about the interdependence of poems.”

Album release of Jim Jarmusch and Jozef Van Wissem’s The Mystery of Heaven
5–6pm, the VW Performance Dome
Following Concerning the Entrance into Eternity, filmmaker-turned-guitar shredder Jim Jarmusch and Dutch lutist Jozef Van Wissem are releasing their second collaborative album, The Mystery of Heaven, via Sacred Bones.

*Please note there will be no Sunday Sessions events on Sunday, November 25, but the museum will be open to the public from 12–6pm. Sunday Sessions programming will resume the following Sunday, December 2. Happy Thanksgiving!
