Desaparencia (Taller)
Regina Silveira
For some years now, the work of Regina Silveira has approached fundamental aspects of representation, such as anamorfosis. The study and parodic use of the basic principles of Descriptive Geometry-perspective and shadow theory-as well as intelligent references to Marcel Duchamp’s work are a few of the elements of which this artist takes drawing to the fields of installation and sculpture. Beyond referencing art history and the nature of the image, Silveira is capable of accomplishing enigmatic or metaphoric comments within her work allowing the viewer to reach the sphere of metaphysics or politics.
Porta-infinitos
Fabiola Torres-Alzaga
The same day, Fabiola Torres-Alzaga will present three of her Porta-infinitos in the Sala de Arte Publico Siqueiros’ Reading Rooom. These Porta-infinitos are suitcases which after being unfolded, transform into optical devices for personal use. The produced effect consists in an altered visual perception radically different to that which actually exists in the users’ surroundings. Torres-Alzaga’s work proposes a reflection upon the relationship between art and magic, in so far as both disciplines belong to the field of illusion. As the artist herself expresses, “magic is the possibility of breaking everyday logic, of fiction and reality at the same time; it makes possible the impossible.” In the case of the Porta-infinitos, this possibility stems from a reflection on the real and the visible.
