Reverse Pedagogy opens on Culture Night Sligo at The Model Satellite. Diverse artists will gather together to produce artwork, to educate one another, and to collaborate generally in opposition to traditional art educational models. The project, a unique artist residency, involves arts practitioners from different backgrounds, working in different genres.Reverse Pedagogy evolved out of Canadian artist Paul Butler’s collective “Collage Parties,” where he, up to twenty other artists, and the public produce artwork over a week-long collaboration. In a similar spirit, Reverse Pedagogy in Sligo will be packed with leisure and sports activities, socialisation, and the “general pursuit of anything but work in a quantifiable sense.” This project was previously produced at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada and the 2009 Venice Biennale. The heart of the project is semi-collaborative, improvised projects and exhibitions that eventually open to the public for full participation. On Culture Night, artists and public will be interacting together creatively.
The opening for Reverse Pedagogy is followed on Saturday September 26th by the contemporary art festival Gracelands.. All are invited for two unparalleled nights in Sligo and neibouring Leitrim. For more information visit www.modelart.ie

THE MODEL
The Model is distinctive in Ireland as a multi-disciplinary arts organisation led by the contemporary visual arts, housing a major art collection of national importance, producing an innovative contemporary music programme, and hosting a film programme – all of which are mediated through an integrated Education programme. The Model is recognised internationally for its standards of excellence.

THE MODEL SATELLITE
While the main building is undergoing redevelopment, The Model is running an ambitious offsite programme throughout Sligo. The Model Satellite, the central site, has three floors of exhibition space for the contemporary exhibition and music programme. Situated in Castle House on Castle Street, the Model Satellite is in the heart of Sligo.
