Lead us with your innovation
We are seeking a Director / Principal Curator to lead the Centre of Contemporary Art (CoCA) into new and exciting territory.

Re-opening in spring 2015
Our iconic Gloucester Street gallery was badly damaged in the February 2011 earthquake and is undergoing major building repairs and improvements. The Centre of Contemporary Art will reopen in September 2015 with a radically reinvigorated vision and structure.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to be part of our new purpose: sharing stimulating art experiences that engage people in conversations about contemporary life and culture.

Do you share our ambition?
We aim to make a unique contribution to the cultural life of Christchurch by presenting contemporary art programmes that enrich and strengthen our community, enabling and encouraging critical dialogue about the world we live in.

You will lead and facilitate creative collaborations to produce stimulating programmes of contemporary art, increase active participation and engagement of local, national and international audiences, connect CoCA with the life, character and spirit of Christchurch city and assist to build a sustainable organisation.

A fresh approach to exhibition development
CoCA is embracing the opportunities that come with change. We’ve established a Curatorium, made up of five nationally and internationally recognised art curators and gallery directors who will offer support to develop a challenging, engaging and exciting gallery programme. We want to spur conversations in and outside the gallery through innovative exhibitions, off-site projects and diverse public programme events.

You are capable, dependable and enthusiastic
You have a high level of commitment to local and international contemporary art. You are experienced in art curation and art gallery management, have excellent communication skills and are able to cultivate and sustain relationships with supporters, artists, patrons, staff, the Curatorium and board members.

You enjoy collaborating and working in a non-hierarchical way while demonstrating your strong leadership skills. The full-time Gallery Manager is recruiting committed volunteers and technical assistance will be contracted when required.

You are able to commit for an initial period of three years with subsequent contracts open for negotiation.

Apply by January 16, 2015
If you think you’re the person we’re looking for, please send us a letter explaining why you’re the ideal candidate for this position along with a CV. CoCA’s Strategic Plan and/or the detailed job description will be provided on request. Please send your application or request for additional information to Kristina Pickford at info [at] coca.org.nz.
