Since 2002, the Arts Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has conferred the biennial Nam June Paik Award (worth 25,000 EUR) in association with a different NRW institution each time. The award recalls the works and spirit of media art pioneer Nam June Paik. In February, the international experts on the selection committee for the Nam June Paik Award 2014 met at Kunstmuseen Krefeld, Haus Lange Museum, Germany. Steven Bode, Director of the London-based Film and Video Umbrella, discussed the shortlisted nominees with Thomas Trummer, Director of the Kunsthalle Mainz, Germany, and with Dr Martin Hentschel and Dr Sylvia Martin of the Directorate of Kunstmuseen Krefeld.

The nominees for the Nam June Paik Award 2014 are:

Ulf Aminde
Cory Arcangel
Camille Henrot
Thomson & Craighead

The Nam June Paik Award 2014 Exhibition will showcase works by each of the shortlisted artists at Kunstmuseen Krefeld in the Haus Lange Museum (designed by Mies van der Rohe). Céline Berger, who won the Nam June Paik Award for Best Newcomer in 2012, will also be presenting a work she created specially for this show.

The exhibition runs from September 28, 2014 to February 15, 2015.

Dr Sabine Breitwieser (Director, Museum der Moderne, Rupertinum, Austria), Prof Thomas Y. Levin (media theorist, curator and Professor in the German Department at Princeton University, USA) and Dirk Snauwaert (Artistic Director, WIELS, Contemporary Art Centre, Belgium) will choose the winner of the Nam June Paik Award 2014.
