(left to right) Elliot Humberto Kavee, Steve Lehman, and Vijay Iyer    Fieldwork: Vijay Iyer, Elliot Humberto Kavee, Steve Lehman

Comprised of New York’s rising jazz talents, each critically acclaimed in his own right, with Vijay Iyer on piano, Elliot Humberto Kavee on drums, and Steve Lehman on alto saxophone, Fieldwork is a cutting-edge, groove-based jazz trio exploring new territories between improvisation and composition. Drawing from rhythmic music traditions from around the world, Fieldwork derives inspiration from urban dance music, contemporary electronica, and underground hip-hop to create what Greg Tate from the Village Voice> describes as “cascades of polyrhythms that splinter hither and yon and… dazzling melodic lines that seem limitless in invention.” A local group, Fieldwork has played in New York City as well as abroad, and released their debut album, Your Life Flashes, in October 2002.
