Cabinet Books is pleased to proclaim the coming of Bigert & Bergström’s “The Last Calendar,” your companion for the 356 days of 2012, the world’s final year.

When the current cycle of the Maya Long Count calendar concludes on 21 December 2012, the world will end. Of course, this is hardly the first time the planet’s demise has been prophesied. In fact, Harold Camping, the Christian broadcaster who famously proclaimed that the Rapture would occur on 21 May 2011, has revised his original prediction for the date of this very announcement. If you are reading this, it looks like humanity has survived for now, only to be finally snuffed out at the end of 2012. And so Cabinet offers you, doomed reader, a guide to the brief time that remains. This oversized wall calendar, featuring artworks by Bigert & Bergström illustrating twelve methods of divination, ignores the familiar holidays in favor of more than sixty significant dates in the history of apocalyptic prophecy. Starring comets, aliens, floods, returning messiahs, and more, “The Last Calendar” will be with you for all the days of the coming year, and ends—as will you—on 21 December 2012.
