In conjunction with MoMA’s exhibition The Original Copy: Photography of Sculpture, 1839 to Today (through November 1), this panel discussion looks at the ways in which photography at once informs and challenges our understanding of sculpture. Moderated by Roxana Marcoci, Curator, Department of Photography, MoMA, and featuring George Baker, Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art and Vice-Chair, UCLA Department of Art History; Mark Godfrey, Curator, Tate Modern; Sarah Hamill, Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art, Oberlin College; and artist Rachel Harrison. Organized by Pablo Helguera, Director, Adult and Academic Programs and Laura Beiles, Assistant Director, Adult Programs, MoMA.

This panel discussion foregrounds the experimental uses of the artist’s own body as sculptural material, by using the camera as an agency that generates actions through its presence. Moderated by Roxana Marcoci with artists Eleanor Antin and Robin Rhode. Organized by Beatrice Gross, independent curator, and the MFA Photography, Video, and Related Media Department of the School of Visual Arts.
This program takes place at the SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street. It is free and open to the public.
The Original Copy: Photography of Sculpture, 1839 to Today (MoMA, August 1–November 1, 2010) is organized by Roxana Marcoci, Curator, Department of Photography, MoMA, and will travel to Kunsthaus Zürich, where it will be on view February 25–May 15, 2011. The exhibition is accompanied by a publication, with essays by Ms. Marcoci, Geoffrey Batchen, and Tobia Bezzola, which is published by The Museum of Modern Art and currently available at the MoMA Stores and online at MoMAstore.org.
